about
Second track from Jelly Cleaver's debut album 'Cure for an Existential Crisis', from Suite One: Songs of Searching.
lyrics
I was feeling, I was feeling nothing
I was yearning, I was yearning for meaning
Why do we do the things that we do, why do we say the things that we say?
Why must the poet die in the street, why must the music fade away?
Why do we laugh, why do we cry, why do we give, why do we try?
Why do we live and why do we die, how should we pass the time?
Take a picture let me look upon the face of emotion
Sing your song swan to love, let me hear your devotion
Take me by the tongue, put my body in motion
I don’t know who we are
But I’ve been thinking, I’ve been thinking deeply
I’ve been thinking thoughts that scare me deeply
What’s in a name, the parts that we play
What is this game that we can’t win
What is this life? Numbers or words?
Neither explains a single thing, like
What is joy, where does she live
Who does she spend her time with
And is beauty as elusive as her twin?
Take a picture let me look upon the face of emotion
Sing your song swan to love, let me hear your devotion
Take me by the tongue, put my body in motion
I don’t know who we are
Or what we are doing, or where we are going
Or what we are learning, or who is it serving
Or what is its meaning, but I want a connection
Oh, some comprehension, a little affection from you
I don’t need, I don’t need your answer
I just want, I just want to pass the time
Laughing with you, dancing with you, it might not be
Written in walls, or in the stars, but we’ll say these are the times of our lives
So what do we care, that which has passed
Now that the now is here at last?
Why should we ask what we can’t even explain?
Take a picture let me look upon the face of emotion
Sing your song swan to love, let me hear your devotion
Take me by the tongue, put my body in motion
I don’t know who we are
No I don’t know who we are
